Spur On...

So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going.
He always keeps his word.
Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:22-25 MSG

My very first encounter with the word “spur” comes from my childhood. Somehow myfather found it okay for us kids to watch westerns - which I still love today. I watched the cowboys leap onto the horse, digging their spurs into the sides of the horse urging him forward, fast.

That really encapsulates the idea “spurring on to good works” that Paul uses in Hebrews. It’s not just the idea of passive encouragement but taking action that pushes others to do good.

The author of Hebrews centres on the power of worshipping together spurring the church, as a body of people, to doing good things. This includes worshipping in spirit and truth, hearing the Word of God, confessing our sin, singing praise, confessing our faith, baptisms, communion and greeting each other in Christ. These are ways we foster Christian unity and spur each other on to impacting our family, our community, our nation and our world for good. That is the power of Christ in our world – the mark of His followers are people who are known for their good works.

I’m excited about the possibilities of AsONE Foundation. I look forward to the stories of the good God’s people will do in a world desperate for meaning. Imagine the transformation when men and women spurred on to good works as they take second look at their communities and envision that same community impacted by God’s love.

WOW!
